Protocol Summary: MIRA was a multi-site, randomized, controlled study that sought to measure the effectiveness of the diaphragm, Replens gel and condoms versus condoms alone in preventing heterosexual acquisition of HIV infection among women. The study enrolled over 5,000 sexually active, HIV-negative women in South Africa and Zimbabwe who were followed for 12-24 months.
